True Heroes

On a trip to Greece, I was surprised at the importance of Hercules as the epitome of a true hero. Strong, resourceful, undaunted by any situation facing him, he accomplished the most dangerous and demanding tasks until finally being recognized as a god and national hero.

Our modern heroes seem to be more subdued, less prone to great physical deeds, not even claiming to represent perfection in any form, more like any of us, while still been admired as true heroes. One of them, a young man named Tin Tin from Belgium, he travels a lot as most modern heroes do, and he exploits are not his alone, but rather has the collaboration and contributions from others, including his dog Milou who plays a significant role in the stories.

Another Belgium hero is the Maneken Pis, representing the desire for liberty of Brussels the capital city. Veneered by its citizens now for a few hundred years, he has been provided with all kinds of costumes to be presentable every time he does his unique demonstration of wanton could not care less behavior. A true modern hero for those who cherish tolerance and liberty.
